Dorothy Masuka was born on 3rd September, 1935 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Dorothy Masuka attended a Catholic school that had good enough education for blacks.

Dorothy Masuka started touring in South Africa by the age of 19. Her songs made her popular and had strong messages. Due to the content in her song lyrics in the song she sang for Patrice Lumumba in 1961, she was exiled. In 2011, it was made public that she and Mfundi Vundla would create a film of Masuka’s life. In April 2017, she featured in the concert “The Jazz Epistles” featuring Abdullah Ibrahim $ Ekaya at The Town Hall, New York City.
