Njabulo Ndebele biography: Professor Njabulo Simakahle Ndebele is the former Vice Chancellor cum Principal of the University of Cape Town and the current Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg. He is also an academic and fiction writer.

Njabulo Ndebele was born on 4th July, 1948.
Njabulo Ndebele pursued a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy in the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland and was awarded a Master of Arts in English Literature by the University of Cambridge in 1975, a Doctor of Philosophy in Creative Writing by the University of Denver in 1983. Apart from that, he also studied at University of Cambridge.
Njabulo was Vice Chancellor and Principal at the University of Cape Town from 2000 to 2008. For many years, Njabulo served as the President of the Congress of South Africa. Njabulo has also served as Chair of the South African Universities Vice-Chancellors Association and has also been on the Executive Board of the Association of African Universities since 2001. From 2005 to 2009, he served as the Chair of the Southern African Regional Universities Association and President of AAU.
Njabulo Ndebele got married to Mpho Kathleen Malebo on 30th July, 1971.
Njabulo Ndebele has been blessed with one son and two daughters.
In 2006, The University of Cambridge awarded him with an Honorary Doctorate in Law and was made an honorary fellow of Churchill College in 2007. The University of Michigan awarded him another Honorary Doctorate in Law in 2008. His book, Fools and Other Stories won the Noma Award.
Njabulo Ndebene has published various works including Fine Lines from the Box: Further Thoughts About Our Country, 2007 and Fools and Other Stories, 1983, reissued 2006
