AKA biography: AKA is a hip hop artist and producer from South Africa.

AKA was born on 28th January, 1988 in Cape Town, South Africa.

AKA’s birth name is Kiernan Jarryd Forbes.

In 2009, AKA went solo with hits like Do It and Mistakes. He was dubbed “Prince of South African Rap” by a national newspaper. He had done opening acts for popular musicians including Kanye West, Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar when they were touring in South Africa. In 2014, he signed a deal with Sony Music through its label South African recordings. In 2015, his album Levels was certified Gold, by the Recording Industry of South Africa.

AKA won Metro FM Music Awards for Best Newcomer, Best Hip Hop as a solo act and Best Produced Album for his album Altar Ego. During the GQ Awards held in South Africa, he won Best Dressed Man. In 2011, AKA won Channel O’s Most Gifted Hip-Hop Video at the 7th annual Channel O Music Video Awards. At the 18th South African Music Awards, he won Male Artist of the Year and Best Street Urban Music Album.
