Benjamin Fernandes was born on 25th November, 1992 in Dar Es Salaam.
Fernandes studied at Haven of Peace Academy prior being given a conditional scholarship by the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in Minnesota, United States. In 2014, he accepted at Stanford Graduate School of Business and in 2015, he enrolled at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Fernandes joined Harvard Kennedy School of Government pursuing a course in executive education in 2017.
After graduation from Stanford Graduate School of Business, Fernandes returned back to Tanzania, a move which brought him to the spotlight. He has worked to support the youthful population and focused on the growth of the financial sector in Tanzania.
Fernandes was presented with the MBA World Summit in Miami, Florida in 2016. In 2017, Fernandes won the Frances and Arjay Miller Award in Social Innovation for his contribution in developing the financial sector in Tanzania. He also won the Miller Social Change Leadership Award after being nominated by fellow students and professors.
Fernandes is the first ever Tanzanian to attend Stanford Graduate School of Business as an African MBA Fellow. He is also the youngest African to be accepted at Stanford School of Business. Fernandes was named the first Tanzanian to have ever attended both Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government for an executive education program. In 2016, he was chosen by TRUE Africa as one of the Top 16 Africans leading change in 2016.
