Bhekumuzi Luthuli was born on 13th July, 1961 in Kwa-Maphumulo, South Africa.

Luthuli gained interest in music at an early age and started making traditional Zulu music on a homemade guitar. He later joined the Mbaqanga band Oshimi which was based in Durban. He went on a solo career after recording two albums with the group. He released hit songs, with his album Imali YabeLungu reaching gold status in just a week.

Luthuli won several awards including a SATMA 2011 award for best song. His second and third releases also won OKTV awards. He was also nominated for the 2012 18th South African Music Awards in the categories of Male Artist of the Year and Best Traditional Music Album.

Luthuli was engaged in a music rivalry with Thokozani Langa. The dispute was the reason for Langa’s album, Phuma Kimi.

Bhekumuzi Luthuli died in 2010 after succumbing to the effects of an earlier stroke.
